UGL in English (Understanding Group and Leader)

Uncover important insights about yourself in this program aimed at all professionals working with groups, or as part of one. Originally devised by the Swedish Armed Forces, UGL is an intense training program focused on developing your co-operation skills and advancing your self-knowledge. Are you ready to accept this cherished Swedish leadership challenge?

What is UGL?

Originally developed by the Swedish Armed Forces in the early 1980s, UGL has grown into one of Scandinavia’s most established leadership development programmes. Today it is widely used by leading Swedish employers as part of their long-term leadership and talent development initiatives.

We offer an English-language version of UGL though our partner Här & Nu. Här & Nu has extensive experience in delivering UGL in English, making it accessible for international teams. This allows global organisations to align their leadership development across borders, giving employees a shared framework for leadership, communication, feedback and group dynamics. A proven approach to building high-performing teams – inspired by Scandinavian leadership principles.

During UGL, participants are placed in practical situations that mirror real-life group processes, helping them gain deeper insight into their own behaviour and role within a team. The programme focuses on feedback, conflict awareness, values, group development and the ability to adapt leadership styles to different situations.

Aims and Objectives

This program aims to produce deeper insight into the ways in which you, and others, act and communicate in a professional group context – to ultimately uplift the collective efficiency. Your regular co-workers will notice how you function more dynamically in group efforts and social situations, adding great value to the team productivity.

After having completed the program, you will:

• Have gained new and deeper insights concerning the role you tend to seek in a group.
• Understand the full development process of a group, and how different personalities contribute to the whole while complementing each other.
• Have developed a deeper consciousness regarding your communication and influence on others, as well as how the behaviour of other people affects you.

Program Contents

UGL is based on participative learning, over the course of five consecutive days. The group members will collectively be subjected to a series of experiences that are later discussed in the group. Shorter theory blocks are also part of the training.

The UGL course can be a challenging experience, and we recommed you to make sure you are feeling well rested and in a balanced mindset before you enter into it. Please remember that UGL is a training program. The purpose is not to help you tackle any type of personal crisis you might be going through at the moment.

Avoid taking the course along with your manager or other peers from your organization.

Practical Information

The training takes place over five consecutive days at a boarding facility. The program is designed for you to stay within the group for the duration of the training, meaning that you are expected to spend the nights at the facility (in your private room) even if you have your place of residence in the area.

Meals and accommodation will be reserved on your behalf as you are admitted to the course. No separate reservation is required.
