UGL in English (Understanding Group and Leader)

Uncover important insights about yourself in this program aimed at all professionals working with groups, or as part of one. Originally devised by the Swedish Armed Forces, UGL is an intense training program focused on developing your co-operation skills.

Advance your self-understanding and competency awareness along with others, and make the teams you belong to perform better. Enter the program full of energy, and leave with a new-found sense of wholeness. Are you ready to accept this cherished Swedish leadership challenge?

Suitable for all team players

The program is targeted at anyone who wishes to further develop their ability to co-operate in groups, regardless of position or title. If you work in a team, or across teams – UGL is for you!

You might be leading others in some capacity today – either as a formal manager, or in a specialist role. Maybe you have already taken an UGL or some other leadership course previously, but it is not a requirement.

The UGL program can be beneficial at any point in your career, even if you are not assigned to a leading role. The insights you gain will be useful both on a personal and a professional level, and it is likely that you will keep them close to heart for life.

Aims and Objectives

This program aims to produce deeper insight into the ways in which you, and others, act and communicate in a professional group context – to ultimately uplift the collective efficiency. Your regular co-workers will notice how you function more dynamically in group efforts and social situations, adding great value to the team productivity.

After having completed the program, you will:

• Have gained new and deeper insights concerning the role you tend to seek in a group.
• Understand the full development process of a group, and how different personalities contribute to the whole while complementing each other.
• Have developed a deeper consciousness regarding your communication and influence on others, as well as how the behaviour of other people affects you.

Program Contents

UGL is based on participative learning, over the course of five consecutive days. The group members will collectively be subjected to a series of experiences that are later discussed in the group. Shorter theory blocks are also part of the training.

Qualifications

No previous knowledge of leadership theory is required. The participators should however currently be active in a professional role, or have a role that demands a high level of collaboration.

The UGL course can be a challenging experience, and we recommed you to make sure you are feeling well rested and in a balanced mindset before you enter into it. Please remember that UGL is a training program. The purpose is not to help you tackle any type of personal crisis you might be going through at the moment.

Avoid taking the course along with your manager or other peers from your organization.

Practical Information

The training takes place over five consecutive days at a boarding facility. The program is designed for you to stay within the group for the duration of the training, meaning that you are expected to spend the nights at the facility (in your private room) even if you have your place of residence in the area.

Meals and accommodation will be reserved on your behalf as you are admitted to the course. No separate reservation is required.

Susanne Markovska

”I want to contribute to a humanistic and result-oriented leadership, so that organizations can be both lenient and successful in a sustainable way. My own personal leader-ship is usually described as both hard and soft, which is reflected in my training programs, where we challenge and support the participants alternately in order to further their development process.”
